Stomach Gas: Causes and Symptoms
It is common with any person swallows food, unconsciously, small amounts of air that accumulate in the stomach like gas (aerofagia), which aunmenta with the consumption of products such as carbonated beverages (soft drinks) seasonings, fat, or chile and by the action of bacteria in the digestive system and assist in the assimilation of food.
The presence of these gases, which are more common in older people, can be eliminated by burping or being absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, but when they are very abundant, they can generate a full stomach feeling, irritation of the bowel, numbness and, even headache.
Causes
- Anxiety or nervousness, it causes a person to swallow, inadvertently, increased amounts of air that you eat on a regular basis.
- Consumption of carbonated beverages.
- Intake of fats, spices and chile.
- Eating too fast or standing.
- Chewing gum excessively.
- High intake of legumes (beans, broad beans, chickpeas, lentils), some vegetables (cabbage, cauliflower, onions, artichoke) and drinks with yeast (beer).
- Dining heavily, since the intestinal activity is slower at night, favoring the fermentation of retained food.
Symptoms
- Belching.
- Stunning.
- Heaviness in the stomach and intestines, particularly after sleep or nap.
- Satiety.
- Indigestion, as their presence impedes the functioning of the digestive system.
- If the gases are not out in the form of burping stomach pain, and sometimes are expelled through the anus (flatulence).
